Business Transformation

Background

Strata Plan manages hundreds of Owners Corporations across Melbourne, providing the guidance, resources, and services that streamline shared ownership and optimise the customer experience.

Strata Plan is the disruptor of the industry that are reinventing the way Owners Corporation Management is done.

Challenge

Strata Plan was having people challenges. It was difficult to understand the status of the business and what direction they wanted to go in.

Everybody was working hard, running around doing things, but everyone was tired because they didn’t know what they needed to focus on or what they were accountable for. An effective structure was lacking.

It wasn’t clear exactly what the company’s current challenges were and what it would take to achieve the kind of success the Board wanted.

Solution

ConsciousOrg was chosen because Julia Cookson understood the people side of the business and understood the organisational side. This was a different approach that was unique to what others offered. This was lacking in the other people that Strata Plan had worked with previously.

Julia had meetings with the team leaders, seniors, executives and frontline people in the business to understand the customer and employee experience.

Julia re-structured the business and came up with a completely different model than what Strata Plan thought they needed. She created new roles and new departments, which enabled individuals to understand and accept their roles and role descriptions and know what they are accountable for. Julia gave the staff focus.

Result

The new model has been implemented, and it’s helped Strata Plan get structure and focus on the business.

Julia worked closely with the senior executives and helped them to extend the changes down to the team leaders.

Although the re-structure of the business was a significant change for the company (with a completely different organisational chart, new roles and new positions), Strata Plan acknowledges that without making this change, the company would be where it was for the last ten years.

“Julia’s respectful, and she knows what needs to be done and holds people accountable. She picked up on many things that we weren’t aware of or just tolerated in the business. She enabled individuals to take ownership of their roles, which was very valuable to our company.”

Governance

Background

EduGrowth is Australia’s education technology and innovation industry hub. EduGrowth connects a community of education providers, industry participants and entrepreneurs committed to reimagining learning in the digital age. EduGrowth is focused on accelerating Australia’s EdTech ecosystem globally through connection and collaboration.

EduGrowth is a member-based organisation that advocates for education technology and innovation through research, thought leadership and international pathways.

Challenge

The board of EduGrowth had a strategic plan to set up an Advisory Council and wanted an external party to review existing materials (business constitution, the codes of conduct, terms of reference and recruitment models).

They needed someone with experience to ensure the materials connected to the planned strategy.

Solution

ConsciousOrg was chosen because Julia Cookson provided deep experience. She had great respect for the governance model within a membership-based association and understood the nuance in NFP organisations.

Result

Julia worked as a Consultant and was professional, insightful and strategic in her approach. She provided deep insight and produced good materials to support EduGrowth’s strategic plan.

She gave the CEO the tools to implement the strategic objectives.

“What Julia brings is a unique difference and a very important factor. It’s one thing to understand people, but it’s unique also to understand how organisations function, especially non-commercial organisations.”

David Linke, Managing Director EduGrowth
