Julia Cookson

As the Founder of ConsciousOrg, Julia has over 25 years of senior leadership, strategic development, and executive experience, including working as a qualified Director (AICD) on Lorne Community Health, Connect Health and Project Respect’s Board during periods of rapid growth.
What makes Julia’s expertise unique is her extensive operational involvement combined with advisory and Board directorship experience, giving her a 360-degree view of any organisation.
Added to that is her role in providing Boards with performance assessments that give her rare insights into the current diversity and skill level of thousands of Australian Boards.
Julia is passionate about ensuring the voice of the staff, and the customer is heard at the Board level, which is why she asks deep questions about people, strategy, and processes. It’s her naturally curious approach that transforms business leaders and optimises operations.
Her strength is knowing how to engage people, which comes from her Psychology Degree, deep human resources and change experience combined with her governance, strategy, finance and risk expertise.
Julia’s passion for health, aged care and community support services began when she worked as an Executive in a national genomics facility when technology started reshaping medical discovery.
Since then, she has held Executive roles in large Government agencies, aged and disability care NFPs, national mental health and Family Violence providers, as well as representing aged care businesses at the Royal Commission.
Julia has worked with Boards and Executive leadership teams through various stages in the business growth cycle, from scaling up to ensuring sustainability and a pathway to recovery where funding is reduced.
She lives by the philosophy of being client-focused and empowering people, which is why she is committed to working with purpose-driven organisations.
